Newsletter: Winter 2012

15th Nov 2012

Dear Parents

We would like to welcome all the children and parents who have recently joined our New Steps family. We trust that you are all adjusting and feeling comfortable in the environment.

I also, would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the staff, parents and children for making me feel welcome. Your patience and understanding has helped to make my transition an easy one.

The cold weather is fast approaching and since outdoor play is a compulsory part of our curriculum we would like to ask that you bring appropriate clothing for your children to enjoy their outdoor time.

Our security card blitz in October was very successful. Not having to answer the door, allows the teachers to put all their attention into providing a stimulating and enjoyable program for your children.

It is the Ministry’s requirement and our mandate to strive to have a peanut and nut free environment. To ensure that our children are safe we request that parents refrain from bringing food into the centre. We serve a healthy snack in the morning until 9:00 am.  Food allergies can be life threatening and the health and safety of our children is our priority. We thank you for your co-operation.

If your child is going to be late and you would like lunch saved please let us know and we will be happy to put lunch aside for your child.

Please leave all treasures at home unless your child has a scheduled show and share time. It would be sad if their special treasures are broken or misplaced. Books are welcome any time, we promote literacy and teachers would be happy to read your child’s book to the class.

Some upcoming important dates:

We participate in “Operation Christmas Child” every Christmas season.  We have shoe boxes at our entrance hall if you would like to take part in this outreach to children across the world. These can be filled simply with school supplies, small toys, books etc. If you do take a box they are due back by Nov. 25th. Please help us help those children less fortunate.

Nov. 26 – Dec. 19th will be our Christmas food drive to help those less fortunate in our community. There will be a box in the front entrance. Please bring non-perishable food. it will be delivered to the local fire hall.  Thank you for your generosity!

Dec. 12th is our Christmas concert, beginning at 4:00p.m. We will have an update closer to the time. Please join us following the concert  for light refreshments.

Santa will visit the children at a date still to be arranged. He will spend time in the classrooms and we might be able to coax Santa into allowing photos!

Dec. 24th  Christmas Eve: New steps Childcare centre will be closing at 1 p.m.

Dec. 25th and 26th  Christmas Day and Boxing Day the centre will be closed.

Dec. 31st New Years Eve :New Steps will close at 1p.m. and be closed on New Years Day Jan. 1st  2013.

Some or our teachers would like to have time off during Christmas week to spend with their families. We will have a list in your child’s classroom, please fill in the days your child will be attending, so that we may be able to accommodate our staff with some well deserved time off. Thank you for your co-operation.

Last, but not least, the office door is always open. If you have issues or concerns you would like to discuss please feel free to drop by.

On behalf of all of the New Steps staff we would like to wish you all a very Safe and Happy Holiday Season. GOD BLESS!!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
